20 things to write in your notebook

I have notebooks all around my house. I have one by my bed for writing in when I wake up in the morning. I have another in my bag so I always have something to write on when I am out and about. There is another on my desk where I usually write work related tasks and to do lists. There are notebooks all over the place. And I really enjoy choosing which notebook will be used for each purpose. Usually it's a small one for my bag, like one of these pocket notebooks, and an A5 size for my desk, so there's plenty of room for writing but I can still easily carry it around with me. I use my notebooks to keep track of my life, including keeping lists, to-do lists, planning my future, and also just for fun. Here I'd like to share with you some of the things I like to write in my notebooks, in the hope that it inspires some other writers and journalers.

Check out our collection of notebooks here.

1) To do lists: Every weekday morning I like to make a to-do list. I add each of the important things I need to do for the day, both for work and for family. It will include things like; work tasks that need to be completed, meals to be prepared, bills to be paid, and any sports and activities that are on for the day. As I complete each task I enjoy being able to cross it off the list. Anything not completed in the day can be added to the next day (this happens regularly for me!)

2) A list of projects to start: I keep a list of things that I would like to start in the future. It includes DIY projects, craft projects, plus a few professional projects I would like to start in the future. When I get a chance to start something new, I love to refer back to my list of projects and choose something that is inspiring. Some projects will never happen, and that's ok, I enjoy writing them on my list and having lots of choose from.

3) Shopping lists: I like to keep a shopping list that I can add to each day as I run out of items or as I find new recipes I'd like to try out. If you want a specific shopping list, find ours here, which is part of the collection of planners and organisers.

4) Meal plans: While I'm not so great at this, I know friends and family love to meal plan and choose recipes and meal ideas each week to keep a running shopping list for all the ingredients needed. I also have a magnetic meal planner you might also like!

5) Personal goals: I love to keep some personal goals written down. This is a great way to keep yourself accountable and motivated for all your personal projects.

6) Professional goals: I love to keep a list of goals I want to achieve in my professional life. This includes projects I would like to start, courses I would like to study, and future job prospects I would like to explore.

7) TBR list: This is an important one for readers! I keep a list of my "to be read" books. Each time I see something posted online about a book I'd like to read, or when a friend recommends a book, I add it to the TBR list in my notebook.

8) Budget: This is an important one for many people at the moment! Keep a list of expenses, income, and savings. You can make a list of what you're saving for, or just keep yourself accountable so you'll always have money for bills and important expenses.

9) Fitness plan: I love to do this to keep track of my exercising, you could also do the same for weight loss. Tie it into your goals page or daily schedule so you'll always keep up.

10) Daily schedule: If you've got a busy schedule with lots on each day, keep track of it by making a daily schedule and putting it in your notebook.

11) Mind dump: This is an important one for me. Often while I'm in the middle of a task my mind will wonder and something will distract me. Writing it down is a really great way to get it out of my mind and help me get back to concentrating on the important task at hand.

12) Writing or project ideas: Anytime inspiration hits, write it down!

13) Daily reflections: Reflect each day on the things that happened that were important, how the day went, how you felt, or anything else that is important to reflect upon.

14) Christmas/birthday/anniversary gift lists: Keep a list of gifts that need to be bought. When you get a gift idea for someone who is difficult to buy for, add it to the list right away so you have ideas for when the time comes to buy gifts

15) TV shows and movies to watch: I have an ongoing list in my notebook of what to watch on TV. I have a list of shows I would like myself, and a list of shows that both my husband and I would like and can watch together.

16) Summary of what you are learning about or reading: This is a great one for when you are studying. Write a list or a summary of the most important things you've learnt, and what stood out for you.

17) List of recipes to try: Keep a list in your notebook just like a Pinterest board. Refer back to it when making a meal plan.

18) Meaningful song lyrics, book quotes, or poetry quotes: When something stands out, write it down!

19) Daily Gratitude: Write three things you are grateful for each day. This improves happiness and emotional wellbeing. It's something I am trying to implement each day when writing in my notebook!

20) Anxiety journaling: If you feel anxious regularly or have things you worry about. Writing them down is a great way to deal with the anxiety and help you to let go of the worries. I find writing down my worries help me to move on from them and not let the worries take over my thoughts.
